A tradução de The Catcher in the Rye: uma análise dos traços normativos em O Apanhador no Campo de Centeio

No conceito tradicional da tradução, é esperado que o tradutor seja fiel ao texto original. Contudo, considerações teóricas mais atuais suscitam a necessidade de uma percepção na ocorrência de diversas mudanças ditadas por uma ideologia política, social e cultural contida no universo da língua de chegada, implicando no surgimento de diferentes normas de tradução. Visto isso, nosso estudo apresenta uma análise do comportamento normativo em O Apanhador no Campo de Centeio, a tradução brasileira do famoso romance The Catcher in the Rye, de J. D. Salinger. Publicado em 1965, após um intenso período de censura, a tradução do livro revelou variados graus de padrões de normalização, devidamente identificados e estudados com o intento de avaliar as perdas motivadas por essas mudanças e averiguar se o contexto estilístico foi recuperado no ato tradutório.

In the traditional concept of translation, the translator is expected to be faithful to the original text. However, recent theory has regarded the need for a perception in the occurrence of various changes dictated by political, social and cultural ideology in the target language universe, implying different norms in translation. That having been considered, our study presents an analysis of the normative behavior in O Apanhador no Campo de Centeio, the Brazilian translation of J. D. Salinger’s famous novel, The Catcher in the Rye. Published in 1965, after an intense period of censorship, the translation of the book revealed varying degrees of standards for normalization, properly identified and studied in order to evaluate the losses motivated by these changes and to investigate if the stylistic context was recovered in the act of translation.

O uso de corpora no ato tradutório

O propósito desse trabalho de pesquisa é o de ilustrar como os corpora eletrônicos e programas de software dedicados aos tradutores podem se tornar ferramentas que auxiliam na pesquisa em busca de adequação tradutória, de modo a tornar a tradução um texto fluente aos seus leitores. De acordo com os conceitos de Nida e Newmark, ou o foco do texto recai sobre a estrutura ou sobre o leitor. Além disso, há três fatores que devem ser levados em consideração: as funções da linguagem, o tipo e a finalidade do texto. Para cada tipo de corpus, paralelo ou comparável, pronto ou customizado, há funções, características e vantagens diversas. A partir de exemplos
práticos é possível identificar qual tipo de corpus apresenta mais benefícios a determinada pesquisa específica.

This paper aims to demonstrate how online corpora and software programs designed for translators can be used as tools that help in the search of translational adequacy, in order to produce fluent translation for readers. According to the concepts of Nida and Newmark, the focus of the text is either on the structure or on the reader. Besides, three aspects must be taken into consideration: language functions, text type and purpose. Each type of corpus, be it parallel or comparable, ready-to-use or manually developed, has different functions, characteristics and advantages. By observing practical examples, it is therefore possible to identify which corpus offers the most advantages to each translation.
